This painted stone I found in Haast, (below) it has a little sticker on the back stating to take it on a journey with you and leave its elsewhere, this is what I did and left it at the foot of the sign to the Fantail Falls on the way to Wanaka.

People have carefully piled up rocks everywhere and this tree is one of the prime spots

People were skipping flat stones across the water creating these patterns.

Lake Hawea heralds a cross of the mountains and into a different climate and landscape.

Wanaka has a great heated pool complex with a large car park area, perfect for unicycle riding

I took this photo and wondered what that floating pile of sticks was?

A little stream was coming out to the lake with a little sand bar, creating a wonderfull reflection zone.

Once I saw this...I kept taking photos from different angles and views!

This was the first time I’d seen the Lupins in flower, really strikingly colourfull.

We parked overnight near town, I got up early and walked around Wanaka as the sun came up!

Around the suburbs and down to the Lake.

The new little camera’s zoom facility came into good use here
These are Great Grebes, apparently sitting on a floating nests with the eggs.
About one week later these hatched and was reported in the Press of an increase of 14 Great Grebes chicks.

Not sure if that left feather is a Great Grebes
