Blog #3 Hervey Bay, Calliope, Dululu, Emerald & Carnarvon Gorge.

We left the beauty and euphoria of Fraser Island and headed to Hervey Bay where there is a free parkup out of town behind the visitor centre.
Beautiful sculptures in Hervey Bay.
Simple and so good..but in my opinion, not so easy!

Car parking under the sails at the supermarkets, they really need shade..its so hot!
Is this a moth or a butterfly....whichever it’s beautiful.
We headed north to camp on the Calliope River,
which at this point is salt water, and a tiger shark had been caught the day before.
It didn’t stop people swimming of fishing or jet boating...however!
This is also where I noticed the Jayco Journey caravan sticker is out of parallel with the panel
I measured the word Outback....its 11mm different!

Colliope Market day, its so hot many people have been to the market by 7.30am and going home as we go in!

There is also a historic village, with railway museum and miniature train ride!

Further up the road near Rolleston we parked up on the vacant ground near the T junction.
Nobody around except the flies, our first encounter with them.
Christines strategy, while I took photos of the cockatoos.

Very noisy and lots of them, they love to squawk as they fly.

Then the big trucks came in to park up for the night

The one on the extreme left, had a motor running all night (must have been refrigeration units?)

Our view in the morning..at first light.

Oh happy days!
Next stop Dululu, which was much quieter,
except for the sound of ukulele and penny whistle...no complaints!
This is at the Coal Museum in Blackwater.
How did I get so small?

Now we arrive in Emerald, a much bigger and more prosperous town, definitely Cowboyville!

And Road Trains hauling cattle.
I will always remember Emerald for my first Magpie attack, striking my bike helmet 4 times as I tried to speed away.
Must be the season for it as the next day I had the same result in a different town!

Kenworth Trucks, this one is super clean and beautiful.

No sign of road kill on this beast’s roo bars.

A nice psychedelic mural on this shop’s side wall.

Australian humour..and definitely not my opinion!
We head out to Carnavon Gorge...it has quite a reputation.

We had made a very early start, and got into the Gorge visitor centre car park & was enticed in off the road with the $10 breakfast special, however it was 9.30am and the restaurant opens at 10am (a bit weird because everyone is out and about early!)
We start the walk into the various attractions in the Gorge.
Certainly is a beautifull place.

Trees trees and more trees

A palm frond, another nature’s work of art!

In the 30+ degree heat the shade is most welcome.

These are the steps into the Art Gallery, well worth the walk in to see.

The imagery is hands, emus, not sure about the banana shapes.

Certainly really impressive, tho they had been added to by the white men in the last 200 years.
On the way out back to the highway south we saw our first emus and kangaroos roaming beside the unfenced roadside.
There was a WW2 Dakota Plane which crashed in 1943 and was only found recently and set up as a display.

We headed south to Injune for a cold beer at the only pub and choose to eat out at the Caltex restaurant to have real truckers meal.

That’s all for this blog, the next and final blog in this trip will be the homeward run and packing up the caravan for the Australian summer.
Till then, take care, be creative and have fun!
No worries, No dramas, No probs..too easy, too easy Mates.
